2008 Chesley Award Noms

The 2008 Chesley Award Nominations are here. I'm a finalist in two categories -- Best Hardcover Illustration (for the cover of Sheri S. Tepper's THE MARGARETS (top) and Best Paperback Illustration (for the cover of Rebecca Ore's TIME'S CHILD (both published by HarperCollins/Eos)). Thanks to Richard Aquan, Diana Gill, and Jennifer Brehl for those assignments. :)

Great company in both categories -- Donato Giancola, Bob Eggleton, Todd Lockwood, Stephan Martiniere, John Jude Palencar, Dan Dos Santos, and more. Congrats to all fellow Chesley nominees this year.

Update: the Chesley Ceremony will be Thursday, August 7th (7:30pm) at Worldcon/Denvention.

Well deserved, John! I'm keeping an eye on you for both Chesley and Hugo!

...and this year I, too, am joining the Chesley club, pleased to see that even in my category I'm not in bad company at all! ;-)

Maurizio! Congrats on your nom too!! Was very pleased to you there......good luck!! :)

Hi, Steve -- Really appreciate it. You gonna be at Worldcon or World Fantasy? I'm still debating if I want to hassle w/ shipping art into Canada. Haven't decided. You?

Alas no, we won't be able to hit WorldCon or World Fantasy this year. Our final convention for 2008 will be GenCon in a couple of weeks. After that it is hibernation time for Becky and me. :-)

Thanks John!

I spent part of today looking at cell phones. I had one once - used it about 5 minutes every 3 months. Haven't seen it since the first of the year (can't you tell how that devastates me?), but now that Michael is travelling more, we decided that maybe I should get one. What a racket.

Hi, Steve -- Aaargh. Sorry to hear that. Guess I won't see you and Becky until next year. Definitely stay in touch in the meantime...

Hi, Christine -- Cell phones are a racket, aren't they? I never turn mine on, unless I'm out of town at a convention. But other than that, I really try not to use it. Might be old school but I've never felt the need for anyone (other than my wife) to be able to find me anywhere, anytime.

Thanks, Chris. Nice of you to stop by. Actually, that commission we discussed didn't work out....the good news is I held my ground, and probably did the right thing in the long run. Thanks for your sage advice.....hopefully we'll cross paths more down the road....holler anytime. :)
